bone marrow serves as site of maturation of B lymphocytes
Thymus: Functions to produce hormones required for T cell maturity After maturation lymphocytes enter blood stream and travel to secondary lymphoid organs

Spleen: Sites where lymphocytes encounter antigen and interact with other cells of the immune
system – Clonal Selection B cells become: memory B cells or antibody producing plasma cells T cells become: helper T cells, suppressor T cells, and cytotoxic T cells It is divided into two compartments: a. White pulp is situated around arterial blood vessels and consists of lymphocytes suspended by reticular fibers. Concerned with immune function. b. Red pulp consists of venous sinuses, reticular tissue macrophage. Concerned with disposal of old RBC’s, and other waste products.
