Lab Equipment

Beaker Beaker Beaker Beakers hold solids or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated.

Erlenmeyer Flask Is a flat bottomed conical flask whose shape allows the contents to be swirled without danger spilling.

Graduated Cylinder A graduated
A graduatedcylinder is used tomeasure volumes ofliquids. Graduated Cylinder A graduatedcylinder is used tomeasure volumes ofliquids. A graduated cylinder is used to measure volumes of liquids.

Medicine Dropper A medicine dropper is used to transfer a
small volume of liquid(less than one mL). On top of each medicine dropper is a “rubber bulb”

Forceps Forceps (or tweezers) are used to pick up small objects.

Dissecting Pan Is a pan is used to secure and retain the dissected material. Often the pan will have a wax or rubber bottom to allow pins to be used to keep open the dissected material. The pan shape helps to keep any fluids from running all over the place.

Depression Slide It is a piece of glass where microscopic specimens are placed for observation.  This slide has a circle in the middle with a convex side and a concave side. The sample should be placed in the depression- on the concave side.

Dissecting Needle A needle that helps cut apart or separate organs while dissecting a specimen.

Glass Slide/Coverslip
A microscope slide is a thin flat piece of glass, typically 75 by 25 mm (3 by 1 inches) and about 1 mm thick, used to hold objects for examination under a microscope. Coverslip: It is a very thin piece of glass placed over a specimen on a glass slide that is to be examined under a microscope .

Petri Dish A shallow circular dish with a loose-fitting cover, used to culture bacteria or other microorganisms.

Scalpel A small straight knife with a thin sharp blade used in surgery and dissection.

Safety Goggles Protective, tight-fitting eyewear that includes side shields to protect the eyes from flying debris.

Thermometer An instrument for measuring and indicating temperature.
