2 Antagonist - Character – Conflict –
The force that works against the protagonist in the story. The story’s “bad guy” Character – A person, animal, or creature in a literary work Conflict – The struggle between opposing forces in a story

3 Climax – Context Clues – Exposition –
The part of the plot where the conflict comes to a head. The highest point of interest in the story Context Clues – Hints or suggestions that surround unfamiliar words that may help clarify their meaning Exposition – The part of the plot at the beginning of the story that introduces the characters, setting, etc.

4 Falling Action – Foreshadowing – Genre –
The part of the plot that occurs after the climax Foreshadowing – A hint in the story about something that will occur later Genre – A type or category of literature

5 Mood - Paraphrasing - Plot -
The feeling that a literary work gives to the reader Paraphrasing - Restating the text in your own words Plot - The sequence of events that make up a story

6 Point - of – View - Predicting -
The perspective from which the story is told Predicting - Using what you know to guess what might happen

7 Protagonist - Resolution - Rising Action -
The central character or hero in a work of fiction Resolution - The part of the plot where the conflict is solved Rising Action - The events in the story that move the plot forward before the climax

8 Setting – Support from text - Theme –
The time and place of the action in a story Support from text - Using examples from the story to back up what you believe about it. Theme – The meaning, moral or message about life
