Imperialism Eileen Escobedo November 23,2014 Period 5

2 Type of imperialism Imperialism is one nation (like the US) attempting to rule over the direction or expansion of another country. The types of imperialism being used in Brazil are economical, regional, environmental and social.

3 Historical background of Imperialism
Imperialism began with the Chinese empire in 2205 B.C. During 40 centuries people were formed into one culture. The largest early Western empire was founded after the conquest of Alexander III in the 4th century B.C. It was an attempt to make a common culture, free trade and equality among everyone. Following the colonization of large territories in the New World, Africa and Asia; a new type of imperialism resulted from economic pressures and there was little attempt to give colonies political equalities. The revolt of colonial people against foreign rule continued after World War II. At the end of world War II, the Soviet Union was second in political and economical power only to the united states.

4 Historical background

Brazil and the US are trying to resolve global issues that occur affective towards both countries. Brazil comes into a disagreement with the US foreign policy.

Con: Brazil is not always safe due to drug traffickers and a high crime rate. Pros: There are clean beaches, lots of extremely good fruits and vegetables. Brazil also has beautiful scenery. Con: Brazil has a very large population with crowded housing and homeless roaming the dirty streets.

7 Dangerous streets of Brazil

8 Regional and Economical
Pros: Brazil is among the top 10 economies in the world. Within a decade they will become the worlds 6th leading economy. Con: It is always hard for brazil to compete with the power, wealth and political power of the US. China is also a power brazil has to deal with. Pros: South America became the main focus for Brazilian foreign policy. The results have been not perfect but they have made peaceful, fundamentally constructive relations with every South American. Brazil has resolved disputes with Bolivia, Paraguay and also Colombia. Con: One limitation Brazil’s ability to have influence in regional affairs is that Brazil has remand on the sidelines as neighboring countries Colombia and Peru battled guerrillas and drug traffickers.
