Why solutions? Everyone produces documentation that describes what a product’s features are and how to use them. Enterprise customers are always looking for “solutions” to their business problems, and such solutions usually involve multiple products and technologies. Oracle’s solution project aims to develop and deliver solution blueprints, reference architectures, and design patterns for Oracle Cloud (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS) to customers via docs.oracle.com. Sponsor or Business Owner explains the problem the project/program is to solve, could give some history or background information. Solution types based on lifecycle stages
Our solutions are of 4 key types: Design - Addresses architectural approaches, reference architectures, architectural diagrams, design approaches, decision trees, and design considerations and guidance. Develop - Focuses on implementation details and source code for some development aspects. Integrate - Provides procedures for enterprise integration, including data, process, and UI. Operate - Provides Standard operating procedures (SOPs), lifecycle-management activities, such as back-up/restore, disaster recovery, security, system setup, monitoring, diagnostics, performance, stability, clone, data migration. Sponsor or Business Owner explains the problem the project/program is to solve, could give some history or background information. DDIO progression Solution candidates must demonstrate a clear progression from one life cycle stage to the next, with the following expectations: Each solution in the Design category has a peer in the Develop, Integrate, or Operate category. Each solution in the Develop category has a peer in the Design category; it can have peers in the Integrate and Operate categories. Develop solutions usually include code samples. Each solution in the Integrate category has a peer in the Design or Develop category; it can have a peer in the Operate category. Develop solutions usually include code samples. Sourcing solution content
Partnered with solution architects or consulting teams involved in designing and implementing solutions for your enterprise customers. Started building solution content using their patterns “harvested” from their customer engagements. Defined a process for anyone in the product dev organization (PMs, presales/field engineers etc) to nominate solution candidates. Created a central steering committee to vet the nominations and recommend taxonomy and metadata values. Confidential – Oracle Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted
11
Challenges to expect Developing solutions is not easy if you don’t have executive sponsorship Staffing and resourcing model Feature/function docs are still needed! Technical ability and skills of solution writers Maintenance of solution content when products and features keep changing Environments/sandboxes for testing Reuse of content from existing publications (product docs) and any refactoring Confidential – Oracle Internal/Restricted/Highly Restricted
12
Q and A – 5 minutes Q & A The core Project/Program Leadership team (Sponsor, Project Mgr(s)/Program Mgr) should field questions from the team members and stakeholders. Try to keep the group from “starting the work” in this meeting To draw out questions, ask if everybody clearly understands the goals of the project/program, plans to work the project(s), their role.
