Biochemical Signal Processing
“Counting” molecules by biological receptors, which in turn control downstream events, is a generic task. Accuracy of measurement is governed by the physics of diffusion. Theory and experiment indicate that in many cases, performance of cells approaches lower bound set by diffusive counting noise!
