2 CHEF - Developing Future Leaders in Appalachia
Fahe is on a mission to eliminate persistent poverty in Appalachia. Critical need to develop the next generation of leaders in Appalachia: Fahe was founded by a group of leaders representing central Appalachian affordable housing organizations in 1980. Our membership network now includes more than 50 non-profits throughout Appalachia that employ local leaders doing “boots on the ground” work in the communities they serve.

In 2017, with support from Rural LISC, Fahe piloted the CHEF program to provide internship opportunities in our Appalachian communities - placing interns with Fahe Members across the region. 2017 CHEF Program Staff, Service Site Supervisors & Interns

By providing internship opportunities within the Appalachian region for emerging professionals, Fahe will help develop and retain leaders who will shape our region’s future. CHEF Internship Program Objectives: To equip young leaders with a place-based perspective and new tools, education, and experience needed to shape a more prosperous and positive future. To provide our Fahe Network with broader skillsets and fresh perspectives. To attract and retain professionals who will be our next generation of leaders.

2017 CHEF Program Eight interns were placed at CHEF Service Sites with Fahe Members in 3 states—KY, WV, & TN. 12 week term, full time internship The interns completed a specific project and benefited from mentoring and networking opportunities provided through their Service Site and CHEF Program activities.

7 CHEF 2017 Gathering/Tour Fahe hosted a CHEF Gathering/Tour - CHEF Interns, Site Supervisors, and Program Staff came together for a 2 day event of peer sharing, networking, and a tour of a few of Fahe’s local projects, as we shared about Fahe’s local and regional impact through our Network of nonprofits.
