Framework & Results A general solution for bridging EO to application Your text would go here. Introduction CyberConnector is an NSF EarthCube building block, which simplifies the steps to plug in a data source into an ESM and lowers the barriers for modelers to use Earth Observation (EO) data in ESMs. CyberConnector objectives: providing an efficient and robust way for preparing and feeding EO data to ESMs; Facilitating the interoperability between EO sensors and ESMs Enabling the knowledge accumulation and sharing on geoprocessing Automatically presenting ESM outputs / results through the Web Automatically producing high-level products through Business Event Processing (BEP) Engaging in broad community participations in developing and using CyberConnector and sustaining its operation. Methods Based on geoprocessing modeling (GPM), a solution, which consists of seven major modules, is designed: GPM designer, GPM binder, GPM runner, GPM monitor, Resource register, Order manager, Result exhibitor. In the solution, EO data and ESMs are independent, distributed and completely loosely coupled. It supports “plug-and-play” for most standard-compliant web services and data products. CyberConnector can be also integrated with any external systems by calling the standard interface APIs of its modules and services Implementation CyberConnector has been published online. Project Portal: ( Function Interface: ( Examples of ESMs for demonstration: 1) FVCOM (finite volume coastal ocean model) ( 2) CRM (cloud resolving model) ( CyberConnector/web/crm) Contact Conclusion There are many barriers, which severely affect the efficiency of modelers in using EO data and its derived products in their daily modeling and validating activities. This project proposed a general framework for removing the barriers. The framework is implemented in a web service system, namely CyberConnector, which aims to remove or lower those barriers and significantly enhance modeling flexibility, efficiency, scalability and generality across multiple geoscientific disciplines. Two models are tested on the system and the results show that CyberConnector significantly facilitates and enhances the use of EO data and its derived products in ESMs. Acknowledgement This project is supported by a grant from NSF EarthCube Program (Grant # ICER ) Facilitating the Easy Use of Earth Observation Data in Earth System Models through CyberConnector Liping Di*, Ziheng Sun, Chen Zhang Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems, George Mason University 1.
