2 Partnership working with an education provider to deliver a horticulture course for an acquired brain injury group Gary Walls and Fiona Curley NHSCT Brain Injury Service THE COURSE Level 2 City and Guilds Award in Practical Horticulture (11 students) 10 week course, 4 hours per week with enhanced rest breaks OT in situ to provide support to students and tutors Individual goals – time keeping, transport, social interaction External support for students THE OUTCOMES 90% Attendance rate 90% Qualification achievement Improved mood Improved confidence Improved activity levels Improved social interaction Carer respite THE LEARNING POINTS Partnership working can identify new opportunities for service users to pursue goals ABI survivors can pursue vocational qualifications if the right support is available Horticulture can (still!) be used to work towards a range of rehabilitation goals
