1 Rock Cycle ROCK ON!

2 Create a foldable Stack 3 sheets of copy paper
Slide the front 2 sheets down so the sheets are stair stepped, each sheet should be about 1 inch lower than the sheet behind it. Fold the sheets in half away from you so it creates 5 tabs. Label the tabs as follows: Igneous Metamorphic Sedimentary Weathering – Erosion Rock Cycle

3 The outside of your foldable should look like this:
Rock On! Igneous Metamorphic Sedimentary Sedimentary Processes Rock Cycle

4 IGNEOUS ROCK Forms when hot magma or lava cools and hardens.
Intrusive – Forms inside the earth (visible crystals) Extrusive – Forms outside the earth. Examples – Granite, Basalt, Obsidian

5 METAMORPHIC ROCK Rocks that have changed because of changes in temperature, pressure and/or hot liquids. Can form from Igneous, Sedimentary or Metamorphic Rocks Example – Gneiss, Slate

6 SEDIMENTARY ROCK Form when sediments are compacted and cemented together. Where you find fossils Examples – Shale, Siltstone, Sandstone

7 SEDIMENTARY PROCESSES
There are 5 processes that make sedimentary rock: Weathering – Breaking down of rocks into small pieces by physical or chemical means. Erosion – Carrying sediments away. Deposition – Depositing (placing) sedminents in a new location. Compaction – Packing sediments together. Cementation – Cementing or gluing sediments together.

8 ROCK CYCLE Draw on last tab

9 Rock Cycle Which state reminds you of a hamburger?
Which stage reminds you of a butterfly?
