WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
1 PETER 4:18
2
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
Peter encouraged Christians to endure trial. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1Pe 4:12-16)
3
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
He points out that if the saints suffer in this life, what will happen to those who don’t obey God? For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? (1Pe 4:17)
4
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
If the righteous are scarcely saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? (1Pe 4:18)
5
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
Many are troubled by that question today. What about the ancient societies that didn’t know about God, Jesus, or the Bible? What about the man in the rain forest, my neighbor, etc.?
6
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
What does the Bible teach about the fate of the one who doesn’t know God?
7
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
ALL HAVE SINNED
8
There is a universal need for salvation!
ALL HAVE SINNED There is a universal need for salvation! The reason is because all who live will sin! For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Rom 3:23)
9
The Gospel is the answer to man’s need for salvation (Rom. 1:16-17)!
ALL HAVE SINNED The Gospel is the answer to man’s need for salvation (Rom. 1:16-17)! For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Rom 1:16-17)
10
The Gospel is the answer to man’s need for salvation (Rom. 1:16-17).
ALL HAVE SINNED The Gospel is the answer to man’s need for salvation (Rom. 1:16-17). It reveals God’s plan for man to become righteous (Rom. 3:22). It will save all sinners who believe (Rom. 1:16-17). It reveals God’s grace and mercy to give sinners: A Savior (1 Tim. 4:10). A Sacrifice (Heb. 9:22; 10:12). A Message (Acts 20:24).
11
All have sinned and need salvation.
Therefore the Gospel is to be preached to all! And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mar 16:15-16) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Mat 28:19-20)
12
The Gospel is to be preached to all!
ALL HAVE SINNED The Gospel is to be preached to all! All sin; so all are lost even if they don’t realize it (Acts 17:31). All are lost; so all are under penalty of death (Rom. 6:23; 5:12).
13
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
What does the Bible teach about the fate of the one who doesn’t know God? ALL HAVE SINNED
14
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
All Are Without Excuse
15
Their lusts have turned them from God!
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE Why have all sinned? Their lusts have turned them from God! For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (Rom 1:18)
16
Their lusts have turned them from God (Rom. 1:18).
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE Why have all sinned? Their lusts have turned them from God (Rom. 1:18). Ungodliness and unrighteousness suppress the truth (Gen. 6:1-5). Man’s sin blinds him to the truth (2 Cor. 4:3-4).
17
They have chosen to reject God and His truth!
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They have chosen to reject God and His truth! For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Rom 1:18-20)
18
They have chosen to reject God and His truth!
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They have chosen to reject God and His truth! Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (Rom 1:21-23)
19
They have chosen to reject God and His truth (Rom. 1:18-23).
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They have chosen to reject God and His truth (Rom. 1:18-23). God has revealed Himself to man in creation (Rom. 1:19-20). God has revealed His truth to man (Rom. 1:19; Gen. 2:16-17; Heb. 1:1-2). Man has refused nature’s and God’s own spoken testimony. Therefore they are without excuse!
20
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They continue down the same path; deeper and deeper into sin (Rom. 1:21-32). They cease to honor God (Rom. 1:21; Isa. 24:5-6). They cease to thank God (Rom. 1:21). They begin to elevate themselves (Rom. 1:22; Eph. 4:17-18).
21
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They continue down the same path; deeper and deeper into sin (Rom. 1:21-32). They begin to worship things created; idolatry (Rom. 1:23). The truth is exchanged for a lie (Rom. 1:25). Many false religions/systems develop. Moral chaos results (Rom. 1:24-32).
22
They will be left to their own devices!
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They will be left to their own devices! Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: (Rom 1:24) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: (Rom 1:26) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; (Rom 1:28)
23
ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE They will be left to their own devices (Rom. 1:24,26,28). God has reached out to man; He will not force man to turn to Him! If man will not turn to God, He will let him go (Eph. 4:19). He will allow man to follow his lusts and what it brings (Rom. 1:27). He has revealed what awaits the sinner (Rom. 1:18, 32). Only death awaits the unrepentant (Rom. 6:23).
24
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
What does the Bible teach about the fate of the one who doesn’t know God? ALL HAVE SINNED ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE
25
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
All Can Turn Back
26
ALL CAN TURN BACK Eventually, when man rejects God and His truth, whole societies and cultures do not know God or His truth! Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (Rom 1:25) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; (Rom 1:28)
27
ALL CAN TURN BACK Eventually, when man rejects God and His truth, whole societies and cultures do not know God or His truth (Rom. 1:25,28). Many are disturbed by the teachings of the Bible in light of ancient/pagan cultures of the past and present (“Will all these people be lost?”). The scriptures show that God has revealed Himself (Acts 14:15-17; Rom. 1:19-20; Col. 1:23). That man/society chooses to not know God doesn’t excuse them (2 Ths. 2:9-12).
28
ALL CAN TURN BACK Ignorance of God doesn’t make the sinner free of the price of their sin. It manifest their sin and alienation from God (Rom. 3:9-19). It manifests their need for the gospel (Rom. 11:32; Mk. 16:15; Rom. 1:16). It manifests the grace and mercy of God who has given a message that calls the sinner back to Him (Rom. 5:6-9).
29
Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God!
ALL CAN TURN BACK Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God! There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. (Rom 3:11)
30
Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God!
ALL CAN TURN BACK Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God! That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. (Act 15:17)
31
Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God!
ALL CAN TURN BACK Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God! But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Heb 11:6)
32
ALL CAN TURN BACK If man will seek Him, God will make a way for him to know the truth (Lk. 11:5-10; Jn. 7:17)! And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. (Luk 11:5-8)
33
ALL CAN TURN BACK If man will seek Him, God will make a way for him to know the truth (Lk. 11:5-10; Jn. 7:17)! And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Luk 11:9-10)
34
ALL CAN TURN BACK Man must choose to turn from his own lusts and seek God! Everyone can choose to turn back to God; but will they?
35
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
What does the Bible teach about the fate of the one who doesn’t know God? ALL HAVE SINNED ALL ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE ALL CAN TURN BACK
36
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
The Bible is plain on the end of those who do not know God and who don’t obey the gospel! In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (2Th 1:8-9)
37
WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND THE SINNER APPEAR?
The Bible is plain on the end of those who do not know God and who don’t obey the gospel (2 Ths. 1:8-9). We needn’t worry about those who are long dead or out of our reach; God is just and will judge them fairly (Rom. 2:2; 9:14). Rather we need to turn and learn and obey God now (Rom. 2:3-6)! Then we must share the gospel with the lost that they too might be saved from the wrath to come (Jn. 4:35)!
