Role of the Tutor
The Tutor must:
Thoughtfully plan activities that align with the unit’s content and know which Foundation Skills are utilised to undertake that activity
Identify what successful use of the Foundation Skill looks like, so that competent use of any Foundation Skill is recognised
Refer to the ACSF to ascertain how to develop the core skills to a higher level of complexity where relevant for learners to maximise learning outcomes

Identifies relevant information in written and / or verbal texts

Oral Communication - Discusses progress with trainer or supervisor
Asks relevant questions
Listens to and considers other points of view
Responds to critique using conventional courtesy
Uses appropriate non-verbal communication techniques
Demonstrates appropriate register for conversation
Communicates using reasonable grammatical accuracy
Recognises the difference between colloquial and formal vocabulary and uses appropriately

What does competency look like?
The Tutor has the opportunity to decide upon which features / descriptors of competency he / she is seeking within each ACE course. The decision may be influenced by:
The learning outcomes which have been decided for the course
The level of the ACSF Core Skills
The capability of each learner individually –assessment relates to individual learners and is not a collective, group outcome decision
