Solution Concentration
Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Solution Concentration Objective: I will explain what concentration and molarity of a solution represent and perform calculations involving molarity Entry Task: 5 gummy bears have been placed overnight in 5 different aqueous sugar solutions. Each solution contains a different amount of sugar. Look on counters for gummy bears in solution! Which solution do you think has the greatest amount of sugar in it? What do you think caused the bears to change size?

Definitions Solute - A substance that is dissolved in a solution (ex. sugar) Solvent - A substance that the solute is dissolved IN (ex. water) Saturated Solution - A solution that contains the maximum amount of solute for the amount of solvent Concentration - A measure of the amount of solute dissolved in a specific volume of solvent Molarity - concentration expressed in moles of solute per liter of solution

Exit Ticket Suppose 10.0 g of salt, NaCl, are dissolved in 0.50 L of water. What is the molarity of the solution?
