Congratulations on choosing to study French for your A Levels at Whitburn C of E Academy.
To prepare you for the course, complete at least 6 of the tasks from the grid before we start in September. You should also ensure that you purchase a ring binder folder, dividers and plastic wallets ready for the start of the course. Bonne chance! A bientôt! Tâche 1 Buy an A5 notebook and create your own vocabulary booklet. Fill it with words and phrases that you learn over the summer holidays. Tâche 2 Revise all GCSE grammar from your KS4 resources and access for grammar revision (go to AS Resources – verb busters) Try for fantastic online quizzes to test your knowledge too! Complete at least 6 quizzes over the course of the holidays. Tâche 3 Test your grammar! Can you conjugate regular er, ir and re verbs in all tenses? What about the irregulars? List them then check your answers in the conjugation Tâche 4 Read the newspaper or Choose an interesting article and summarise it in French. Tâche 5 Research the following topics from the AQA A Level Specification: Le gwoka L’homoparentalité Les SDF Le PACS Tâche 6 Research Le Monde de la Francophonie online to find out where French is spoken. Choose one country to research – find out the location, population and other interesting facts. Tâche 7 Catch up on all the beauty, fashion and celebrity or Choose 15 new words from an article that interests you and find out what they mean in English. Tâche 8 Choose a radio station from and tune in at least twice a week. Try to make notes, writing key words and information that you hear and understand. Tâche 9 Read about contemporary issues in French-speaking Choose an interesting article and look up any unfamiliar vocabulary using Tâche 10 Research popular French-speaking singers/songwriters and listen to their songs. Choose a song and translate the lyrics into English. Need some inspiration? Try… Julien Doré, Jacques Brel, Christine and the Queens, Zaz and Maxime le Forestier Tâche 11 Invest in some French films on DVD and watch them in French with subtitles. Here’s some suggestions: Il y a longtemps que je t’aime Le dîner de cons Ne le dis à personne Les Choristes Tâche 12 Check out YouTubers DamonandJo for tons of advice and tips including how to sound more French when you’re speaking it, deciphering French rap lyrics and absolute must-know French phrases Document to edit.
