DSES - Very Successful Year’s Accomplishments
Primary Goals: Complete a number of Haswell site infrastructure projects √ Solve site power issues, Electric grid power at site √ Create a radio astronomy certification program √ Offer a number of public outreach programs √ Move the Mailing address for convenience √ Operational dish pointing systems √ Achieve the basic operational capability of a real radio observatory. √ Meetings Regular monthly operations and engineer meetings – Second Monday of each month Regular monthly Science meetings hosted by Dr. Richard Russel – Fourth Monday of each month. These focus on what and how we want to achieve scientific measurements and observations in Radio Astronomy. 1st Joint Haswell and Greenbank collaboration, simultaneous deep space signal acquisition A Number of Scientific Research Papers Written and Presented at SARA and VHF Conferences August 2017 Open House and other outreach programs in community Official mailing address moved from Longmont to Colorado Springs Improved Website Updated Regularly New Amateur Radio Club Station KǾPRT Increased membership from 45 to over 61 Ham Radio Awards

Site Power and Joint Operations with NRAO SETI project
Skip Crilley has generously donated $37000 for installation of the site utility power. Steve Plock and Ed Corn worked extensively to complete the utility hookup in January. Skip has also donated extensive receiver and signal processing equipment to upgrade the 60 ft. DSES dish for improved sensitivity and signal processing in the 1400 MHz band. This upgrade will allow simultaneous observations with the 40 ft dish Skip is using at the Green Bank, WV, NRAO facility in conjunction with SETI work. The upgrade will also greatly improve general Neutral Hydrogen Frequency observations at the DSES site.

Community Outreach Gary Agranat provided a local outreach booth at the Haswell Bazaar in September and Gary and Bill Miller did the same at the Eads Bazaar in November. Many community contacts were made and we made our organization and operations known to the community as a matter of education and community goodwill. DSES Papers On March 17 to 19, 2017, Dave Molter, Dr. Richard Russel, Bill Miller, and Steve Plock pictured here from left to right attended and presented papers representing the DSES at the Western Regional Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA) Conference in Socorro, New Mexico. They also had a VIP tour of the Very Large Array of the National Radio Observatory as seen in the background. In March Rich Russel did a presentation hosted by Ed Schade in the Colorado Springs Rotary Club on the organization and its STEM educational goals. Rich also presented a paper at the Eastern SARA conference at Green Bank, WV.
