2 Look at the white sheet on your table.

Handouts (SKIP) Today, you will get two handouts to take home. Make sure the first sheet is signed and returned to me by next Friday! Let’s review the handouts!

4 What would be some good guidelines to follow when using these tools?
Today, we will be using the rulers, markers, crayons, and colored pencils. What would be some good guidelines to follow when using these tools?

5 “The Art of ME” On your paper, write your name in bubble or block letters. It should fill about ¼ of your paper. Use the marker to outline your letters. What are SYMBOLS? What might SYMBOLIZE a teacher? In each of the four corners of your paper, draw four large symbols that represent YOU!

6 The Art of Me: Day 2 Supplies: Place the baskets of markers and colored pencils on your tables. When you get your work from yesterday, continue drawing your symbols and outlining them with a marker. After attendance, we will begin the next step!

7 “The Art of ME” When you look at a battery, what symbol does it use for POSITIVE? What symbol does it use for NEGATIVE? Inside your symbols and letters, lightly draw a “+” symbol. In the space outside your name and symbols, lightly draw a “—” symbol. In art, this is called POSITIVE SPACE and NEGATIVE SPACE.

9 “The Art of ME” Line your ruler up on the short side of your paper.
Make a light dot at the 2 and1/8 mark on your ruler. Slide the ruler down to your dot and measure 2 and 1/8 again. Make another dot. Continue down the page.

10 Very, very lightly, draw a grid using your marks as a guideline.
“The Art of ME” Do the same action on the long side of your paper, making your light dot by the 2 and 1/4 mark on your ruler. Very, very lightly, draw a grid using your marks as a guideline.

11 “The Art of ME” Pick at least four of your favorite colors from the baskets. Start on the upper-left box. Color only the POSITIVE SPACE. Move to the right. In the next box, color only the NEGATIVE SPACE. Go left to right, taking turns coloring POSTIVE and NEGATIVE.

12 If you finish early, you may ask for a book or a coloring sheet.
“The Art of ME” When you finish, you should have a unique, colorful representation of yourself!! If you finish early, you may ask for a book or a coloring sheet.
