Treaty that lays out: The rights of children The standards to which all governments must aspire in order to promote these rights. The CRC recognizes the previous practices as violations of human rights Works to eliminate them throughout the world

Protection against all forms of discrimination and punishment. The right to survival and development. Protection from abuse and neglect. The right to education, housing, healthcare, and all forms of mental and physical well-being.

what has happened? November 1989: the UN adopted the treaty
America is the only nation in the world that has not ratified it Since its adoption, it has become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history The CRC has been signed by President Clinton, but still not sent to the Senate
