CPR for Adults Hand Position Place the heal of one hand on the persons sternum at the center of there chest (T) Place the other hand directly over the other hand Interlock your fingers and hold them upward

CPR for Adults Position your body by kneeling beside the person
Hands should remain in the same position Straightening your arms and lock your elbows so that your shoulders are “ directly over your hands

CPR for Adults Compressions
Pushing down on the sternum (1 ½ to 2 inches) Smooth not jerky Maintain a steady down-and-up rhythm DO NOT pause between compressions

CPR for Adults What is happening?
Pressing Down Walls of the heart squeeze together, forcing the blood to empty out of the heart. Coming Up Heart chambers fill with blood between compressions.

CPR for Adults Give 30 compressions for 18 seconds
Push down as you say “the number” and “and” when you come up and 2 and 3 etc. . .

CPR for Adults After giving 30 compressions head tilt/chin lift and give 2 rescue breaths. Check pulse every 2 minutes. Continue until E.M.S. arrives Stop if you see signs of life

Place the pads of three fingers in the center of the chest Chest compressions ½ to 1 inch deep Give 30 compressions and 2 breaths every 30 seconds

Look for foreign object Open mouth & remove breathing barrier Remove object with finger swipe swipe Give 2 rescue breaths Breaths go in with object removed Breaths don’t go in, back to chest compressions
