3 What is a Sentence ? A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. Example: Tom is going to play. Tomorrow we will go to the store. Do you have your homework?

4 Types of Sentences According to their Structures
Simple sentences Compound sentences Complex sentences Compound-Complex sentences

5 Examples of the types … She is wearing a skirt which looks nice.
He went to college and I went to a market where I bought a book. She is wearing a skirt which looks nice. I helped him and he became happy. She laughed at me. I like Mathematics but my bother likes Biology because he wants to be a doctor.

6 What is a paragraph ? Is a group of sentences in which deals with a particular point or idea. A paragraph consists of seven or more sentences. Examples: My name is Sarah. I am students and my specialization is Science. I like my major so much because it based on logic thinking ...etc.

7 Introduction Introduce the topic and purpose of the composition
Arouse the reader’s interest in the topic Lead to the main part It often gives the writer’s opinion about a controversial issue.( thesis statement)

8 Introduction It introduces the reader to your topic. It gives the reader background. Some other good information to include: information about the author (if you are critiquing a book or doing a book review--was the author’s background important to the piece?) background concerning the piece you are writing about (when was it written, who wrote it, why) background of the issue you are writing about (as for an argumentative essay)

9 Thesis Statement The thesis statement expresses the MAIN IDEA of your essay, the central point that your essay develops/supports.

11 The Body The body is a set of paragraphs that develop the idea expressed in the thesis statement. Make a list of main ideas that support the thesis statement. Each main idea becomes the main idea sentence for a body paragraph. Arrange the main ideas in logical order (time, place, importance) Plan out each body paragraph by listing major details that support each main idea Order the details within each paragraph in a logical way. Each body paragraph may end with a concluding sentence.

12 Conclusion Don’t just repeat yourself. Don’t present new arguments.
It is often elegant to refer back to the introduction or the title. Summary of the main points Your personal conclusion
