Fall Budding (summer budding)
Budwood from current season’s growth Can be done July through September Remove leaf 2-3 weeks for uniting Dormant through fall and winter Prune back in spring

Spring Budding Collect and store dormant budwood in winter
Bud in spring when bark slips on rootstock Prune after 2 weeks

June Budding For one-year-old budded trees in one season Plant seed in fall or early spring Select budwood in early June from current season Bud should be developed but not dormant Keep 3-4 leaves below bud After 5 days start partial prune Complete prune when scion is 10 inches long Done in areas with long growing seasons See page 518 for a good table summarizing budding time (June, Summer, Fall)
