3 Fall Budding (summer budding)
Budwood from current season’s growth Can be done July through September Remove leaf 2-3 weeks for uniting Dormant through fall and winter Prune back in spring

4 Spring Budding Collect and store dormant budwood in winter
Bud in spring when bark slips on rootstock Prune after 2 weeks

5 June Budding For one-year-old budded trees in one season Plant seed in fall or early spring Select budwood in early June from current season Bud should be developed but not dormant Keep 3-4 leaves below bud After 5 days start partial prune Complete prune when scion is 10 inches long Done in areas with long growing seasons See page 518 for a good table summarizing budding time (June, Summer, Fall)
