SHMS Downstream Beamline Large SHMS/HMS Angles (Config-1)
Large SHMS / Min HMS Angle (Config-2) Dan Young Ext 5255 11/16/2018

Things to note in these configurations which are illustrated in the presentation. Large SHMS / HMS Angles (Config -1) Has design spectrometer angles at SHMS = 10 deg, HMS = 14.5 deg Section A Beam Pipes are stepped and can contain a 1.3 deg scatter angle Magnets can not nest around Beam Pipe. Large SHMS / HMS Min Angle (Config -2) Has design spectrometer angles at SHMS = 10 deg, HMS = 10.5 deg Section A Beam Pipes are stepped to a smaller diameter Beam Pipe and do not contain a 1.3 deg scatter angle SHMS Magnet is still at large angle due to magnetic forces on beam line, HMS can be rotated to its min angle of 10.5 deg. Beam Pipe will nest along side magnet in cutout. Switching from Config-1 to Config-2 Connection to Scattering Chamber Window remains the same for both. Change out (2) Section-A Beam Pipes to get from Config-1 to Config-2 Change Beam Pipe Mounts (or adapters) to account for new Beam Pipe diameters in this area. Everything from Section-B back to the dump remains the same for both configurations. Gate Valve is installed in Beam Line in Section B in front of Gate Valve. Possible use of existing Spool Assy for pump out upstream of valve. Design Considerations Horizontal Support and 2 Dog Leg Supports (to floor) may need to be made of steel. This may help for mounting and supporting any additional structure when alternate Beam Pipe Design is done for SHMS at Min Angle (using shielding) Stand off, Mounts, Adjusters, Beam Pipe are all aluminum Beam Pipe Assy is hard mounted to Scattering Chamber Window Flange with only bellows at the Dump end of Beam Line Gate valve is similar to one previously used, just one size smaller Most of Section-C is existing 18 and 24 inch Beam Pipe (will need to inventory) Beam Line Exit See slides How do we want to end the Beam Line? What distance from Target Center do we want? Large Window (similar to previous designs) ? Is there a hard interface with dump requiring a large Bellows? Do we only need a new 24 inch Spool Piece at the end of the Beam Line to position the Exit Window 11/16/2018
