Framework for K-12 Science Education & Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Nope…not another Star Trek feature! NGSS have been released for public viewing and comment until January 29, 2013 Final release is slated for March 2013 Implementation will not be immediate – transition year of school year is the expected implementation date

4 How can you assist teachers at this point in the school year?
Help them become content experts by… Referring them to CMAPP/science resources on Science Wiki /Next Steps Document Investigate grade level planning for science NCDPI Science Live Binder to look at Standard 3 Content, NSTA modules, Annenberg Media

5 NAEP Activity NAEP website ~Cracking Concrete ~Here Comes the Sun
Given that the NAEP is taken by 4th grade students at random, it is even more important that science content continue to be taught to all K-5 students. NAEP website ~Cracking Concrete Supports – K-5 Physical Science, supplemental lessons in 4th grade Landforms unit, rd grade Changes unit ~Here Comes the Sun Supports – Kindergarten Weather unit, 2nd grade Weather unit, 3rd Grade Objects in the Sky unit ~Mystery Plant Supports – 1st grade organisms, 3rd grade units
