Why Jesus Came to Earth Luke 19:1-10
1. We sing the familiar song: “Why did my Savior come to earth?” 2. There were real reasons why Jesus came to earth. Note Jesus’ willingness to dine and associate with the common people. “Publicans and sinners.” This far different than the religious leaders of His day. Special consideration for our lesson: Verse 10

“the Son of Man has come to seek…”
He came to find us “the Son of Man has come to seek…” Matthew 15:24 John 10:16 (Luke 15:1-14), “Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, "This Man receives sinners and eats with them." 3 So He spoke this parable to them, saying:4 " What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety- nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? Jesus Came to Earth to Find the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel (Matthew 15:24), [Response to woman of Canaan, whose daughter was demon possessed], “But He answered and said, " I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.“ (Note: Because of her faith, Christ healed her child). Jesus Came to Earth to Find the Lost Sheep not of this Fold (John 10:16), “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”

He came to forgive us Ezekiel 34:27 Hebrews 5:8-9 “…and to save…”
(verses 11-16), Imagery begins regarding God being a shepherd to His sheep (Israel) / contrasted with the irresponsible shepherds or leaders of Israel at that time… (verses 23-31), David a type – a Shepherd protecting the sheep (Israel) (Christ/spiritual Israel) (27), “Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in their land; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved them.” (30-31), “Thus they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the house of Israel, are My people," says the Lord God. '"31 "You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God," says the Lord God.” Must become obedient to the gospel (Believe, Confess faith, Repent, be Baptized) God saves the obedient! (Hebrews 5:8-9), “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.”

He came to free us Romans 6:17-18 Hebrews 2:14-15 1 Peter 5:8-9
“…that which was lost.” Romans 6:17-18 Hebrews 2:14-15 1 Peter 5:8-9 From Sin’s Bondage and Death (Romans 6:17-18), “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.” From the Fear of Death (Hebrews 2:14-15), “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” From Satan’s Deception (1 Peter 5:8-9), “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

Christ Came to save Sinners
That is why we call Him Jesus! (cf. Matthew 1:21) Christ came to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15), “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” 2. That is why we call His name “Jesus” ("Jehovah is salvation"; "Savior") (Matthew 1:21), [Angel to Joseph] “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
