Fossil Fuels
2
Fuel A substance that burns in oxygen to produce heat
3
Fire triangle
4
Fossil Fuels Formed from the remains of organisms that lived millions of years ago They are composed of mainly hydrogen and carbon and are called hydro carbons
5
Hydrocarbons. These are compounds that contain hydrogen and carbon only. They burn to produce carbon dioxide and water.
6
To examine the products of combustion of a hydrocarbon
7
The greenhouse effect Heat from the sun is trapped by Carbon dioxide and other gases. This causes the temperature of the Earth to rise.
9
Global warming is a result of this greenhouse effect
11
Acid rain Sulfur and Nitrogen, emited gases from burning fossil fuels and car exhausts, all dissolve in rainwater making it acidic.
12
Sulfuric Acid – Sulfur dioxide produced when we burn fossil fuels
Sulfuric Acid – Sulfur dioxide produced when we burn fossil fuels. It dissolves in rainwater to make sulfuric acid Nitric acid – Nitrogen produced by car exhausts dissolves in water vapour to form Nitric acid
15
PREVENTION OF GLOBAL WARMING AND ACID RAIN??
