1 Project Progress Document Optimization 22 March 2007
Team members: Chris Catalano Chun-Yu Chang Chris Joson David Matthes Hello… We’re the Forensic Doc Optimization group.

2 General Status SysML Models SysML Usability Webpage Questions
Agenda General Status SysML Models SysML Usability Webpage Questions We’re going to present the following topics.

3 Project Milestones Date Description
15 Feb 07 Proposal and Presentation 22 Feb 07 Status Report (10 Min) 08 Mar 07 Progress Report (20 Min) 22 Mar 07 Status Report (10 Min) 05 Apr 07 Formal Progress Presentation (30 Min) 26 Apr 07 Dry Run of Final Presentation 11 May 07 Final Project Presentation Final Report We’re doing our second status report. Time is flying!!!!!

4 Schedule We’re still on schedule.

5 Progress To Date SysML Software Installation – 100%
Currently using Temp licenses (could not access GMU server for floating licenses) SysML Training – Complete 3/3/07 SysML Model Development – 30% complete Web Site Development – 90% complete SysML Metrics – 75% complete Baseline Performance Analysis – 90% complete Our progress has improved significantly for Website and baseline performance analysis. SysML Modeling still need to integrate and attempt execution.

6 Context Requirements Component Activity
SysML Diagrams Context Requirements Component Activity These are the SysML diagrams we’ve been working on.

7 Context Diagram Our context diagram shows the hi-level context of the actors and activities in our current EDD (Electronic Data Discovery) process.

8 Requirements Diagram These are our requirements and how they are derived from each other.

9 EDD Components Our first level decomposition of our EDD System includes 4 components. Each component has attributes and activities.

10 Component Model This is our second level decomposition of the 4 components from the previous slide. (This slide only shows 2/4 since the diagram would not be intelligible if all were fit in one screen shot.

11 Components Model (cont)
This is a continuation of the second level decomposition of the 4 main components.

12 Activity Model of Current Process
This is our Activity model that shows the flow of activities performed in the current EDD Process. It starts off with getting the native files and creating a source inventory. Then if there’s , an Extraction program extracts all the from Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook, etc. All the and edocs are compiled into working data (WD). Then any archived data are unarchived, an inventory is taken, and any duplicate s, documents, files, pictures are culled. A worker copies the WD to servers and another software program searches and indexes all of the data. The searchable/indexed WD is then checked to see if there are any excel files. Then a Format XLS macro makes all the excel spreadsheets have the same format (i.e. comma separated). Express then extracts TIFFs and Texts. Then Genjob, Gen Output, Infomatik, and Branded all format the TIFFs and Texts into the final delivery format.

13 Attenex and Autonomy Activities
The current EDD process is then streamlined into the following process if either the Attenex or Autonomy software is used. Attenex is easier to use but more expensive. Autonomy is harder to use but less expensive. A lot of the individual software products used in the current process would be eliminated with either on of these software.

14 Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment Evaluation Hierarchy
SysML Usability Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment Evaluation Hierarchy Transition to SysML Usability

15 Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment Evaluation Hierarchy*
Overall System Utility Effect On Task Performance System Usability Dr. Adelman provided the team with a multi-attribute utility assessment evaluation hierarchy. We are currently refining questions to make a questionnaire with ratings of 1 to 5 for all the SysML users to take so that we can attempt to measure SysML performance and usability. * Adelman & Riedel, Handbook for Evaluating Knowledge Based Systems, 1997

16 Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment Evaluation Hierarchy
Effect On Task Performance Process Quality Product Quality - Information - Explanation - Representation - Problem Solving Approach - Time to Perform Task - System Response Time - Results - Confidence - Cost-Effectiveness This is a decomposition of the effect on task performance (process and product quality).

17 Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment Evaluation Hierarchy
System Usability General Ease Of Use Functional Allocation Flexibility Quality of Users Mental Model Ease Of Training Interface This is a decomposition of system usability. We have questions that will help us try and measure each of these blocks and roll up into the higher blocks. Learnability - On-line Help Documentation Consistence System Navigation Data Entry Feedback Color Error Prevention

18 Webpage Development Transition to webpage development.

19 This is a screen shot of our website. We have it running on our PCs
This is a screen shot of our website. We have it running on our PCs. We just have to do the work to post this to a host site for the public. Demo of website to be performed in class from local PC.

20 Questions? Questions????
