2 The Dramatic Climax of the Play
Williams’ exposition for the scene: “Blanche has been drinking fairly steadily” “A mood of hysterical exhilaration came into her” “she had decked herself out in a somewhat soiled and crumpled white satin evening gown” “scuffed silver slippers” “murmuring excitedly as if to a group of spectral admirers” All of this adds a sad and nightmarish quality to to the scene – Blanche is continuing her slide down into disintegration

3 Enter Stanley … In brilliant silk pyjamas

4 To this add the stage directions:
Lurid reflections appear on the walls around Blanche. The shadows are of a grotesque and menacing form. The night is filled with inhuman voices like cries in a jungle. A prostitute has rolled a drunkard

5 Sexual tension “You think I’ll interfere with you? Ha-ha!”
He takes a step towards her, biting his tongue which protrudes between his lips She smashes a bottle on the table “Oh! So you want some rough house! “We’ve had this date with each other from the beginning! He picks up her inert figure and carries her to the bed. The hot trumpet and drums from the Four Deuces sound loudly.
