Editing Your Speech Practice with preparation outline Is speech too long.., edit to meet time Review specific purpose Is your focus to broad? Can you get away with less key points? What will be most/least interesting to audience Simply say it Speak to the point, be succinct. Can you state idea in less words

Practice with preparation outline Keep the best supporting material Review material review it for strength & eliminate the weaker items Ask listener to help revise If you practive in front of an audience ask for feedback Review intro & conclusion They should take up about 10% each If they are longer make adjustments

Delivery Outline/Speaking Notes Purpose of delivery outline Give you direction during delivery of speech Not a lot of detail Make it as brief as possible (But still clear to you) Key words, phrases To help recall speech info Sample Delivery/Speaking outline

What to include in delivery outline 1. Introduction (1st line of speech) 2. Conclusion (Closing line of speech) 3. Supporting material, signposts 4. Hard to remember facts Statistics, quotations, etc 5. Standard outline form (To distinguish key points from support) Put in your outline what YOU need in order to successfully present your speech

Activity You will have until the end of class to try and put together an outline that has been broken up into parts Think about the principle of subordination Support should match the main idea it is under Think about outline format Look at how samples are broken
