10Base-T Ethernet is king and always will be, but HomePNA/HomePlug have promise
TCP/IP taken for granted now!
802.11b wireless both blessing and curse
POP, SMTP, Web, FTP, other Internet applications standards are solid but can be complex

4. Applications Internet usage still best reason to network
Multi-user games coming on strong
Printer/file sharing still a challenge
Digital music and other file sharing difficult but very desirable
Other I-apps motivated from broadband connections (fax, calendaring, time synch)

5. Products Residential gateways galore
Getting better and more firewall-ish
All use web browser to setup and configure
DHCP, basic routing
Adding print servers, wireless access points
Wireless galore (cheaper, more features)
Adding NICs still a challenge for older PCs
HomePNA more interoperable, capable
HomePlug just coming out
