1 Predictive Modeling Breakout Session
GEOSS Workshop Boulder 22 September 2007

2 Community Needs Model interoperability – biggest need Examples:
WRF, varying degrees of success Integration of models and data sets to improve assimilation techniques How to cause gravitation toward interoperability Can GEOSS facilitate this movement? Belief is that it is uniquely positioned to do so.

3 GEOSS Model/Software Standards
Needs to have university and broad community involvement rather than exclusionary development; restricted corporate development focus is wrong way to proceed Increasing development of community-based standards should be fostered Metadata would be valuable for narrowing searches for EO data, but is usually hard to obtain. Metadata standards are needed.

4 GEOSS User Input User input deemed critical to developing modeling standards, but users often don’t have time to interact with GEOSS community – important to have regional managers providing information on actual regional problems. Web page FAQ of: Questions from users on GEOSS and requirements How progress is being made and could be made on user services EO information broker may be a new profession to assist users

5 GEOSS Workshops Workshops have important range of diversity – more valuable than many focused meetings Suggestion to organize more workshops with science (AMS, AGU) and user (NEMA) communities
