2 MANIFEST DESTINY The grave of Samuel Adams, a freedom fighter in the American Revolutionary War, in Boston and a statue of George Washington, first President of the US, in NYC. Mission: developing democracy to the West of the USA and to other countries Belief that it was the destiny of the US to expand its territory at the expense of Native Americans and to extend its political social and economic influences. It was also the thought that the US was a land chosen by God.

Freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that "all men are created equal and that they are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.It is the opportunity to make individual choices without the prior restrictions that limited people according to their class, caste, religion, race, or ethnicity.
