5 Turn and Talk If you had a curfew and wanted to convince your parents to let you stay out one hour past it, what would you say to them?

6 Rhetorical Appeals Ethos A woman pulls her car up to the Starbucks drive-through, and before she can even order her large cup of coffee, the voice on the other end of the speaker says, "Thank you for choosing Starbucks! May I interest you in a low-fat apple-banana bran muffin this morning, paired with a tall skinny soy latte?" Who is persuading? Who is being persuaded? How are they being persuaded? 9 Prospectus A paper prospectus has three functions:
to get you started thinking about your paper early on; to give you the chance to organize your ideas; and to motivate you to articulate your ideas in a coherent and formal fashion on the page. “A prospectus is essentially a work of fiction. You are prospecting, much like those who once panned for gold. The goal here is to be able to conceive of, organize, articulate, and present a viable project. Your project has to be feasible in scope and rational in argument. Your presentation of it should be concise, clear, and easily accessible to your audience.”
