Do we still need FM Background noise Reverberation Distance
©Phonak Presentation Template – Marketing 17/11/201817/11/2018 Three major factors degrade the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and therefore the quality of the speech signal Background noise Reverberation Distance

Received Orders Given Expecting Results

What is frequency This is the number of cycles that signal completes per second Kilo Hertz per second Mega Hertz per second Giga Hertz per second Tera Hertz per second It is no relevance to the quality of a signal An analogy could be: does a bigger road improve your car!
5
Why do we use digital This does not equate necessarily to quality Noise can be digitised accurately and sent digitally to an end user this will not help understanding All a digital signal is, is a transmission medium and a protocol Bad signal in will not be magically transformed into a good signal out Remember also that sound is analogue and the process of changing this to a digital signal can in itself cause errors It is not because it is digital, it is how it is digitised!
6
How do we overcome this We have Intelligent frequency hopping
This means that the Roger system actively looks for clean space to broadcast in. Also remember the signal is sent 3 times and the receiver are monitoring that the signal has been received correctly
7
Digital VS FM They are designed to overcome the same challenges
Digital and 2.4GHz is not in itself a “Magic solution” It is reliant on: Mic Directionality The quality of the digitisation process The decoding at the receiver The noise in the environment How well the signal is captured at the receiver Etc Etc Etc………

A true Digital system Think of digital cameras compare an iPhone with the latest Nikon. They are both digital cameras but what do professionals use to photograph the Grand Prix?
