1 Resilience Defined Day 2

2 Most RESILIENT creatures on Earth
Humans Over millions of years, humans have transformed and evolved from living in the forests to being at the top of the food chain. Humans as a whole species adapt and transform any environment to meet the needs of that community, for good and bad.

3 Sharks Sharks made the list due to the fact that sharks have been around for millions of years, yet evolutionary they have changed very little while maintaining their position as predators. Sharks have amazing power and there are few animals who fail to recognize this.

4 Camels Camels are able withstand extreme temperatures, survive on little water, and their other adaptations including their nostrils and eyebrows. They also have other impressive skills like their ability to drink water quickly which enables them to live in areas with very little water.

5 Jellyfish Over 500 million years old, jellyfish have had the ability to survive extreme ocean conditions throughout history. Their resilience is also increased due to their breeding efficiency. They have very few natural predators and when the immortal jellyfish dies, instead of the body rotting away, it transforms back into their juvenile polyp stage. If that’s not remarkable, I don’t know what is!

6 Let’s Create Your Own Resilient Creature
Break into groups of 3-4 people You will need this definition:

7 In Your Groups Take 5-7 minutes to brainstorm and discuss the qualities a creature would possess to be resilient. For example, quick healing powers, extra-bouncy legs, etc. – The sky is the limit! Write these qualities down on a piece of paper Now, draw a picture of your creature, including all the qualities you have listed. Once time is up, share with the other groups the qualities you listed and compare who had the same qualities and what qualities were unique

8 Processing & Discussions
Did the creatures you designed have more resilience against physical challenges or mental challenges? While humans may not have the same powers as some of our imaginary creatures and other animals, in what ways are humans good at adapting to their conditions? What makes humans unique when it comes to our ability to be resilient? Do you think everyone is capable of increasing their resilience? What can we learn from our resilient creatures today about being more resilient in our own lives?
