Believe Romans 10:17; Heb. 10:39 1. Worship Heb. 11:4 2. Accept the unseen Heb. 11:7 3. Endure tests Heb. 11:17 4. Reject the pleasure of sin Heb. 11:24-25 2. Believe (verb), faith (noun) Rom. 10:17 A. If you are a Christian, you understand the role that God has said believing (faith) has in our salvation B. As a Christian—continue...---continue believing Heb. 10:39 1. worship (v4) a. Faith is essential to be a true worshiper, and changing worship was one of Satan’s early targets—still is. b. Faith like Abel’s offers what God has said, instead of assuming “Its okay, God didn’t say not to...” (eat LS on second day of the week). 2. accept unseen (v7) a. Had Noah seen a flood? he prepared with godly fear b. have you ever seen the world on fire? by faith, you will prepare 3. endure tests (v17) Abr’s test was to give up his son---however you might be tested, what is the key? 4. reject the pleasure of sin (v24-25) Satan will make you think that you can have sinful pleasure and avoid suffering---look at how much fun you can have with a bottle or two of beer! Repent Acts 17:30 1. Faith in God’s promises 2. Humble self-examination 3. Godly sorrow 4. New spiritual focus 1 Cor. 6:8-9a, 11 2 Cor. 13:5 2 Cor. 7:10 2 Cor. 7:11 3. Repent Acts 17:30 A. Think of all that repentance involves: faith in promises of God (good, severe), humble self-examination, godly sorrow, and new spiritual focus 1. Do you remember what repentance cost you—friends, habits, religious tradition, anything you enjoyed? 2. this is God’s plan for all men—including Christians, who must continue. . . B. As Christians, when we sin, we must forget nothing that originally led us to repentance-- 1. faith in the goodness and severity of God 1 Cor. 6:8-9a, 11 if I cheat or. . . (v9b) 2. humble self-examination so I can see my sin 2 Cor. 12:21 (lewdness or backbitings); 13:5 3. godly sorrow 2 Cor. 7:11 4. renewed spiritual focus 2 Cor. 7:11 this will show itself in my public and private conduct (“fruit of rep”) Continue in the Things You Have Learned

Worship- think of how much we confess our faith when we worship 1. We confess our faith when we sing (Jesus, Name Above All Names; Lamb of God) 2. 1 Cor. 11:26 The LS is an opportunity to proclaim (9:14 preach) the Lord’s death 3. Each Lord’s Day, we confess our faith... or sometimes we choose not to. C. Hold fast your confession—do not sin Heb. 4:14-16 1. Jesus was tempted in the same basic ways we are (“God didn’t say not to turn stone to bread,” lots to do—do I make time to pray?) 2. We should not sin all the time---help is always available at the throne of grace and mercy a. when we need help to resist sin, help is available b. when we do not hold fast our confession and sin, mercy/grace are available if we confess our sins 1Jn. 1:9 3. Baptism Mk. 16:16 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? (1 Corinthians 1:13) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. (1 Cor. 12:13-14) Continue in the Things You Have Learned
