Book Club Volunteers Comments
My experience with the Book Club has been inspiring. I have truly enjoyed meeting with our clients in a place outside of work. I have seen these individuals learn and grow, as well as do something that they enjoy. When we meet at the Coffee Shop, other customers like to sit by and listen as we read. Some have even joined in a time or two. I have seen some of our book club participants flourish. They have gone from being afraid to read out loud to awaiting their turn to read with excitement. Others have surprised me by their knowledge of the books we read and how they relate to life. We truly enjoy reading and discussing the books. Crystal Fernandes, Geek Club Volunteer

Being able to participate in our book club has brought me so much joy
Being able to participate in our book club has brought me so much joy! I love seeing everyone’s confidence in reading grow as we meet each week. Reading has been so important to me my whole life and being able to read these books alongside these individuals and hear their opinions and what they’ve learned is so exciting to me. Having the opportunity to discuss these books with others has helped me see the books in a way I hadn’t before. C.S Lewis wrote, “Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become.” I have loved seeing our individual’s develop a love for reading since books give us a way to see worlds we’ll never be able to experience firsthand. I’m so fortunate to be able to meet with these individuals each week and go on the adventures the books offer. Reading makes us pause and be still for a while. I think it’s so important for our mental health to take that time and being able to learn and experience new things together is an added bonus Teri Swaty, Geek Club Volunteer

As reading club facilitator my most enjoyment has been the curiosity of the members. We are reading a book set in 19th century England with old fashioned British terms. The readers want to know what the unfamiliar terms mean and I love that desire to learn. I also love their compassion for animals! Susan Mohan Book Club Volunteered
