1 Notes: How to Write a Strong Conclusion

2 There are 4 important elements
Conclusive Statement (CS) High Data (HD) Low Data (LD) Explanatory Language (EL)

3 How do you earn these points?
CS (Concluding Statement) Answer the lab question! You can refer to the hypothesis and say whether the data supports the hypothesis. CS Example: QUESTION: How does the amount of water effect plant growth? CS: Adding water to a plant makes the plant grow taller.

4 HD (High Data) Must use the highest average from the data table AND include units on the number. HD Example: QUESTION: How does the habitat effect number of salmonberry plants? HD: The forest edge habitat had the most plants with 16 plants in the 5-by-5 meter plot.

5 LD (Low Data) Must use the lowest average from the data table AND include units on the number. LD Example: QUESTION: How does the habitat effect number of salmonberry plants? LD: The forest habitat had the least plants on average with only 4 plants in the 5-by-5 meter plot.

6 EL (Explanatory Language) Must explain why you think these results occurred AND include a number to support this conclusion. EL Example: The forest edge habitat had 12 more plants per plot than the forest habitat because the plants in the forest have the light blocked by taller trees, so they don’t grow very well.
