Identifying Primary and Secondary Sources:
- Primary Sources include: journals, letters, logs, interviews, surveys, questionnaires, pictures, original documents, eyewitness accounts, and autobiographies.
- Secondary Sources include: encyclopedias, historical novels, magazine articles, textbooks, documentaries, research papers and biographies

1. Consider the reliability of the source.
2. Consult multiple sources.

Exploring Primary and Secondary Sources:
- You need to determine if a sources if primary or secondary. Ask yourself if the author was present at the event or if the description is secondhand.
- Identify the author and date of the source. Verify it is reliable by confirming it with 2 other sources.
- Summarize and draw conclusions about the sources.

4. Analyzing Primary and Secondary Sources:
A - author (Who created the source? What is the author's point of view?)
P - place (Where and when was the source produced?)
A - audience (For whom was the source created?)
R - reason (Why was the source produced at the time it was produced?)
T - the Main Idea (What point is the source trying to convey?)
Y - yea, so what? (What difference does it make?)
Analyzing Visual Sources:
O - overview (What is this, a picture, a graphic, a map?)
P - parts (What are the parts of the graphic? What do they represent?)
T - title (What's the title? What does it tell you about the graphic?)
I - inter relationships (What's going on? What does the parts mean to each other?)
C - conclusion (What is the graphic trying to show us?)
S - source (Who created the graphic? When?)

I am beseiged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna -- I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man -- The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken -- I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls -- I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, & every thing dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch -- The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country --
