1 Welcome to AP Lit! Mrs. Buchholz

2 Who am I? I have my Bachelor’s Degree in English Lit with a minor in writing I have my Secondary Teaching Credential in English I have my Master’s in English – emphasis on literary analysis This is my 14th year at Ponderosa! GO BRUINS!

3 What’s this AP stuff all about?
College credit! 90% of colleges offer credit, placement, or both on the basis of successful AP test scores! Counts as 1 point higher on GPA! You can get 5.0 for an A! Learn at a college level and be prepared for your college classes! Analyze literature and write about it like a pro!

4 The Exam The exam consists of 110 multiple choice questions and 3 essays. The multiple choice is worth 55% and the essays are 45%. The multiple choice questions require you to read a piece of literature or poetry and answer questions about it. Because of this, we will spend a large amount of our time on reading and responding – in various ways – especially writing.

5 My job To facilitate the learning of important literary terms and concepts To direct reading to include a variety of works that may be on the exam To improve your writing to ensure a satisfactory (or better) score on the exam To prepare all of you for your college experience.

6 Your job Be informed! Check website, Aeries, AP Central – everything!
Complete all work and turn it in – on time! Take constructive criticism and improve your work! Push yourself to become stronger literature analysts and writers! Read everything you can! Increase your classics list! Don’t settle for anything!

7 Stuff you need Keep a notebook only for this class with 5 sections.
Post-it flags and highlighters are your best friends! If you prefer, you may get your own copies of the novels we are reading so that you can mark them up! The most important thing you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to improve your skills!

8 Let’s do this thing!
