OVERALL PROGRAMME AIM:
To inspire a love of reading and engagement with numeracy in children and young people (CYP) aged 5-13 who are looked after or vulnerable. CYP have improved educational attainment Long-term outcomes CYP have improved reading and numeracy skills CYP have improved engagement with learning at school CYP have improved health and wellbeing CYP have increased confidence with maths CYP increasingly identify as a reader CYP have improved self-esteem CYP have improved relationships with their carers Line of accountability Medium-term outcomes CYP have more positive attitudes towards working with numbers CYP have more positive attitudes towards reading for pleasure CYP have increased confidence related to reading for pleasure Carers feel more confident sharing books and activities with their child Carers know more about how to support their child with reading and number activities CYP have increased positive experiences with numbers CYP have increased positive reading experiences CYP spend more time discussing books (and stories) CYP have increased awareness of different genres or types of books CYP independently engage in more learning activities at home CYP feel valued and empowered Carers have increased awareness of different genres or types of books Practitioners are better able to support a love of reading and engagement with numeracy for children who are looked after Short-term outcomes CYP spend more time on number activities CYP spend more time reading for pleasure CYP find books that appeal to them regardless of interest or ability CYP have increased access to books and other resources Carers talk to their child more about reading and stories Carers spend more time sharing books and activities with their child Activities Number activities Books The Letterbox Club programme as a whole Carer resources / support Supporting resources for practitioners
