Classroom Rules and Procedures
We will spend the first few weeks of school establishing our classroom rules and procedures. Students are expected to follow them on a daily basis. Our students understand that we have our classroom rules and procedures to help us learn and keep us safe.

Monday folders and homework
2nd grade homework should take no longer than 20 min. Your child should be reading nightly I will begin sending home a daily homework/communication folder the first day of school. Please check your child’s folder nightly for any homework, immediate notes, and their daily behavior log and sign or initial. Monday folders (purple) will have any PTA related info and class work from the previous week. Most class work & HW will be marked with a “P” for practice. Return any folder the next day!

Reading logs…. After reading many blogs and articles on the dreaded “Reading Log” I am not requiring a nightly log to be kept and signed. I don't need a reading log to tell me whether or not your child is reading at home nightly, independently or with someone. I'll know just by how they read in class. I always encourage parents to read to their children and listen to their children read as often as possible While there is no formal assignment for reading, it is expected that each child will spend at least 10 minutes nightly reading to themselves or someone else. This is an excellent way to practice fluency, build comprehension, and develop a love of reading! I have already sent home a reading bubble log as incentive to read nightly.

Letterland. words will be posted weekly on our class website
Letterland *words will be posted weekly on our class website. I will not be sending home a list. Letterland is a unique, phonics based approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling. The Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child friendly pictograms and they all live in an imaginary place called Letterland. Simple stories about the Letterland characters, explain the full range of dry phonics facts so that children are motivated to listen, to think, and to learn. These stories explain letter sounds and shapes, allowing children to progress quickly to word building, reading and writing.
