A young brilliant engineer was hired by a major engineering design company but was fired within a very short time. The reason? He was brilliant at work but could not take direction. He couldn’t take feedback and when other engineers needed support , he said he was too busy .

Manager #1 had the most experience and was the smartest by way of qualification and skill Manager # 2 also looked like a strong candidate, fairly high on knowledge and skill and balanced Manager #3 was a contender too-highest in emotional intelligence, slightly behind the other two leading candidates in IQ and experience

A college professor was confronted by a students on his language use which distracted ans confused his listeners. He ended sentences with the words “on it” much as some people pointlessly insert “you know” into sentences. The Professor was shocked when he started monitoring his own lectures. But now determined to change, he took a bold step and asked the children to raise their hands whenever he used “on it”. With a hundred hands going up, he changed in no time.

Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Bound Identify the required competencies & skill sets and work on them continuously Assess your performance against your goals- through self assessment And feedback from the stakeholders Keep a Journal of all activities and use it for Development and Growth Manage Time- Keeps you on track toward your goal Take Responsibility and commit to the dates ,Establish ‘check points’ along the way to make sure you are still on course
