Mise-En-Scene Mise-En-Scene is the specific placement of props, different characters, scenery used in films. It is everything that can be seen within a frame within a film. Mise-en-scene can be used with the setting etc. To create a certain mood or atmosphere within the film due to people’s association with certain places and objects.

Setting: Setting within movies can manipulate the viewer due to people associating certain objects or places with different emotions. The setting helps define what genre the film falls into.

Theme: The theme within movies define what the movie is about and how the events in the film link to this theme i.e. power can be a main theme and the quest for it or love can be a main theme. Theme of love Theme of power

Ideology: The ideology in movies can be seen as a “world view”. It shows certain groups of people for example if they wanted to show gang culture .

Stereotypes A view that is possessed by a wide view that simplifies social / ethnic groups i.e. blonde people are dumb or sports jocks are obnoxious

Iconography: Iconography are the objects, costumes, character types that the viewer would expect to see within a specific genre. For example, in sci-fci the iconography the viewer expects to see might be is space ships etc. Out of space battles in star wars (sci-fci) Cowboys, ranches in The good, The bad and the Ugly(western)

Cinematography: Cinematography is the way that the camera Is used within movies. The camera angles portray the different facial expressions of characters.

Special Effects: Special effects (SFX) is used within films in the form of make-up, CGI (Computer Generated Image) to create an illusion to the viewer that something is real.

Sound: Sound in films is everything you hear in movies that can be Diegetic which is such as dialogue and sound in the scene or it can be non diegetic which is sound added over the top of a scene such as music or narration.

Visual Style Visual style is the way that the whole of the movie looks like. For example, in Avatar the colours are saturated and vibrant
