3
General comments on cooperation
Appreciation of cooperation, communication spirit and open exchanges Points of reserve: Formality of meetings Length of meetings Too few discussions between delegates (informal side meetings) Strong role of Eurostat in discussions Balance of subjects should be more towards Internet
4
Balance of discussion and cooperation subjects
General consideration of good balance. Some specific points: Exchange of best practices is particularly appreciated Earlier consultation and discussions, e.g. on Internet developments, testing of systems by NSIs. Differences of opinion on guidelines for publications (in favour – against) More possibilities for discussions and exchanges between Member States Sometimes need for specialists (-> stronger role of Task Forces) More future orientation in the discussions, e.g. use of new technologies
5
How should the cooperation evolve?
Development of common dissemination principles Care for image that the ESS can well work together <--> independence of NSIs Common projects very important (few but good ones, value added services, concentration on digital services) Improve metadata and its presentation and integration (cooperation with meta data group) SDMX and related visualisation tools (open source) More exchange of best practices, i.e. on specific promising techniques (RSS, common keywords, ..) More well focused workshops and Task Forces Cooperation with communication teams
6
Concrete proposals for cooperation projects
Strategic Dissemination Plan Increased cooperation on existing projects: Sharing of tables Common keywords Common search facility Proactive communication on Census 2011 and dissemination of census data Stronger use of INSIte for exchange of dissemination information and best practices Cross border cooperation on regional statistics Guideline documents, such as those of UNECE (European inter-institutional style guide)
7
Concrete proposals for cooperation projects (cont.)
More aligned Internet designs More and common visualisation tools and WebTV for EU statistics Benchmarking-type auditions on usability and accessibility of websites User satisfaction/user needs surveys Common content and structure of announcements Common project(s) on statistical literacy All national statistics in English
