Key Press Example The force required to actuate
a button on 20 prototype phones is shown here. The force must be between 2 and 4 Newtons to meet the human factors requirements. What is the current capability of the process? Open “Force to Actuate.xls”. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)

Key Press Example (cont.)
Move data from Excel into JMP by pressing Data Table. Quantum XL Stat Tools -> Analysis Tools -> Capability Analysis Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
7
Key Press Example (cont.)
Optional JMP has the option to associate specification limits with a column. Right click on the column heading and select “Columns Properties” > “Spec Limits” Note that JMP puts the LSL above the USL. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
8
Key Press Example (cont.)
Select “Column 1” for “Y”. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
9
Key Press Example (cont.)
Type in 2 for LSL and 4 for USL. Note: JMP calls “Long Term” Cpk, this is not compliant with AIAG but easy to change. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
10
Set JMP to use Ppk with “Long Term”
Select File > Preferences > Platforms > Capability Click “Ppk Capability Labeling” Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
11

12
Getting both Cpk and Ppk from JMP
JMP 10 and 11, must go through Control Chart builder Click on IR IR stands for “Individuals and Moving Range” Note: If using rational subgrouping then choose Xbar Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)

Binomial Distribution
Much easier to do in Excel than JMP. For directions in JMP see this video For Excel, open the file “Binomial Distribution in Excel (easier than JMP).xlsx Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
16
Binomial Confidence Interval
Binomial Sample Confidence Interval where p = .9 n = 1000 α = 5% (95% confidence) z1- α/2 = 1.96 Simplified Equation based upon approximation of the Binomial CI with a Normal Distribution. Quantum XL uses the exact formula. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)

23
Distribution Fitting (cont.)
Minitab ranks according to AIC Select “Diagnostic Plot” and “Goodness of Fit” Display of parameters Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
24
Distribution Fitting (cont.)
JMP’s Diagnostic Plot Can be either a Quantile or Probability Plot. JMP chooses automatically for you based on the distribution. The difference between Quantile and Probability plot are mathematical minutia. You interpret them the same. However, JMP may not exactly match other software. For more information see… Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
25
Distribution Fitting (cont.)
Goodness-of-Fit Test JMP chooses which test to run based on the distribution. The test isn’t always available for all distributions. JMP displays a note “Small p-values reject Ho”. Example: if the p-value was .05, then you are 95% confident the data does not fit the Gamma (or other) distribution. Generally, any p-value less than .05 we would reject the distribution. For p-values greater than .05 we “fail to reject the distribution”. Remember, a single dataset can match multiple distributions. Copyright © SigmaZone.com. (Contents may not be copied.)
