8 capitulate To end resistance, give up, surrender, throw in the towel

9 disarming Charming; tending to get rid of unfriendliness and suspicion

10 awry In a turned or twisted position or direction; wrong, out of the right or hoped-for cause

11 dire Dreadful; causing fear or suffering; warning of trouble to come; demanding action to avoid disaster

12 impunity Freedom from punishment

13 predominant The greatest in strength or power; most common

14 fend To ward off, resist, to get along, to manage

15 penal Having to do with punishment

16 endow To furnish, equip, provide with funds or some other desirable thing or quality

17 renown Fame, glory

18 mien Air, manner appearance; expression

19 recluse A person who leads a life shut up or withdrawn from the world

20 pertinent Related to the matter at hand; to the point

21 prodigy Something wonderful or marvelous; something abnormal; an unusual feat; a child or young person with extraordinary ability
