Things we will do in class...
-Read a bunch and write a bunch (obviously)

Materials for class -Notebook -Loose leaf paper. -Pen and pencil
-Binder ---Notes section in notebook, ALWAYS date and title. The more accessible your notebook is, the higher your grade will probably be. -Keep it here unless you need your notes. (Which you probably will at some point) -Turn in your notebook for notebook checks.

Vocab! Vocab! Vocab! -We will learn 5 new words per week
-On Monday we will pick a theme for a story -On Friday you will turn in an original story in which you correctly use all 5 words. (back of notebook)

Motivational Monday -We will read a short something to get us motivated for the new week. (poem, news story/article, etc.) -You will write your reactions to these in your notebook.

Outside Reading! -You will read 4 young adult novels this year! (outside of class reading) -Read something you haven’t previously read, or read a book from a genre you have never explored -When you decide on a book, you will sign up with me -We will do a short report and project on these to be presented to a group.

-A cautionary tale If we don’t change things, then mankind will lose its humanity and the world will be plunged into darkness -Outlines the life of a man who is rebellious against his oppressive society -Will he win? Will he escape? There’s only one way to find out...

-Published in 1847 A tale of the lives and interchanges of two families that live in the remote Northern English countryside “considered controversial because its depiction of mental and physical cruelty was unusually stark, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals of the day, including religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality.” -Villains destroy lives, heroes rise up -A tale of revenge, ghosts, betrayal, love-triangles, dangerous relationships and violence... Hooray!

-A shakespearean Comedy that includes but is not limited to:
-Wisdom, wit, strange love-triangles, disguises and crossdressing! -What’s not to like?! (Ever seen “She’s the Man”?--similar)

-A Heroic Epic about a warrior King and his escapades through Scandinavia
-Battles, bloodshed and barbarians! Oh, my! -Oldest surviving long poem in old English (One of the most important texts in the English language!) -Written by an anonymous Anglo- Saxon poet between A.D.
