The Nucleus Presentation by: Alejandro Perez and Abigail Ragasa
2
Functions Stores DNA (tightly packed)
Manages the cell's activities (growth, protein synthesis, cell division) Plays a role in DNA replication Regulates passage of molecules from the cytoplasm (Nuclear Envelope)
3
Where? The Nucleus is specific to eukaryotic cells.
Not all eukaryotic cells have a nucleus. Some eukaryotic cells have more than one nucleus. No Prokaryotic cells have nuclei.
4
Structure Nuclear envelope Nuclear pore(s) Chromatin Chromosomes
Nucleolus Nucleoplasm
5
Nucleus Interaction Replicates DNA
mRNA: messenger code created by nucleus in order to interact with other organelles Ribosomes: mRNA is deciphered; AA are converted to proteins
6
Nucleus Interaction Endoplasmic reticulum: responsible for protein synthesis (RNA) Golgi bodies: modifies proteins Lysosomes: contains digestive enzymes to break down proteins and other particles
