Impact of Recent Dms Results
Flavour in the era of the LHC May 15-17th 2006 Impact of Recent Dms Results Stéphane T’Jampens LAPP/IN2P3/CNRS On behalf of the CKMfitter group
2
Dms: recent results 17 < Dms < 21 ps-1 @90 C.L.
hep-ex/ 17 < Dms < 21 C.L. (See G. Borissov’s talk) FPCP ‘06 Dms = (stat) ± 0.07 (syst) ps-1 (See S. De Cecco’s talk) The signal has a significance of 3.8s at 17.5 ps-1

Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane
_ _ Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane Very weak dependence on r and h _ _ The point is: : SU(3)-breaking corrections Measurement of Dms reduces the uncertainties on f2Bd Bd since x is better known from Lattice QCD Leads to improvement of the constraint from Dmd measurement on |VtdV*tb|2
4
Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane
_ _ Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane from Dmd from Dmd & Dms Lower limit on Dms Upper limit on Dms x = 1.24 ± 0.04 ± 0.06 chiral logs x = ( ) [lattice value not in the fit] Not yet competitive with LQCD
5
Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane
_ _ Dms : constraint in the (r-h) plane (Dms>14.4 ps-1) (Summer ’05) (Summer ’05)
6
Global CKM Fit Direct Measurement: Dms=17.34+0.49-0.20 ps-1
Global fit w/o Dms: Dms= ps-1 In agreement with the global CKM fit. Consistent with Standard Model
7
Constraint on g Global fit w/o Dms: g = 48.4+12.2-4.4 (deg)
New bounds on Dms impose stringent constraints on g values
8
Constraint on |Vtd/Vts|
Dmd=0.508±0.004 ps-1
9
Constraint on New Physics
(See P. Ball’s talk) 0.2 fb-1 s(Dms)= 0.035, s(sin(2bs)= 0.1 Still plenty of room for NP sin(2bs) = ± (global CKM fit) Measurement at the LHC will be a very sensitive probe to NP
