This describes Pathway I that is suited for the overwhelming majority of students. Following middle school, these students will enter high school taking freshman Biology. However, a very small percentage of entering 6th grade may choose Pathway II

Curious
Love of science and learning, seeks learning outside of school
Familiar with scientific method and scientific thinking
Mature
In class with older students
Takes initiative for learning, and willing to ask questions
Lab safety – control impulses
Organized
Strong sense of responsibility for homework and classwork
Time management
Responsible and Hard Working
Willing to have more homework as an 8th grader
(30-40 min/night, 5 times a week)

Consider the following:
Score 2632 on 4th grade SBA in Reading and be reading at 7th grade level now
Score 2631 on 4th grade SBA in Math, and math path should align with science. Will need to be in Geometry as a 9th grader to be successful in Chemistry.

9. Middle School Pathway II
Consider the following:
Students may receive lower grades than they are used to
Students will be unable to change Pathways after the first month of 6th grade
Students may have opportunity in high school to take additional advanced science classes**
Life balance: outside activities and the number of advanced classes being set up for 8th grade
Following middle school, Pathway II students enter high school Chemisty as a freshman, IF their math has been compacted as well. They would need to have completed Algebra, and be taking Geometry as a 9th grader.
