4. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
[23] For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; [24] and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." [25] In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." [26] For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.

6. Bread From Heaven.

7. Manna in the Wilderness
Israel had crossed the Red Sea and were at Elim
They set out from Elim into the wilderness of Sin
And Israel started to complain
Exodus 16:2–4… [2] Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. [3] And the children of Israel said to them, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger." [4] Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.

8. What an event! Manna in the Wilderness
Exodus 16:14-15 [14] And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. [15] So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.
What an event!

9. Manna in the Wilderness
I want you to imagine yourself in tents in the wilderness
No pantry, no refrigerator
No idea of what you will eat in the morning
Walking out of your tent in the morning to manna
Exodus 16:31 And the house of Israel called its name Manna. And it was like white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
This is a life of total dependance on God
Every morning for 40 years they depended on God for the sustenance
Could you imagine opening your refrigerator every morning and it had been filled with food?
Jesus brings them back to this event

11. Jesus The True Bread
Jesus had just fed over 5000 men (this number did not include in women or children)
John 6:9-10 [9] "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?" [10] Then Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

12. And then He makes the connection — manna and Himself

Jesus reminds them of God’s provision through manna (their dependance on God)
And then He makes the connection — manna and Himself
John 6:32-33 [32] Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. [33] For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

13. Jesus The True Bread
This comparison becomes a stumbling block for them
John 6:51-52 [51] I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." [52] The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?"

14. It is pretty clear here — Jesus is eternal life!

But Jesus is pretty clear about his role as the Bread of Life
This foreshadows our memorial, the Lord’s Supper
Unless we are partakers of Christ, we have no portion with Him
John 6:54-58 [54] Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. [55] For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. [56] He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. [57] As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. [58] This is the bread which came down from heaven-not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."
It is pretty clear here — Jesus is eternal life!

15. These were his disciples!
Sin or Salvation
This teaching was hard for the Israelites
John 6:60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?"
John 6:66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
These weren’t the religious elite: the Pharisees, the Sadducees, the Lawyers, or the scribes that stopped following Jesus — they weren’t following him to begin with
These were his disciples!

16. Sin or Salvation
It is right after many of His disciples left that Peter makes this great statement
John 6: [67] Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" [68] But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. [69] Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

17. Sin or Salvation
We either have eternal life or eternal destruction away from the presence of the Lord.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

19. What benefits do we get, when we eat of this BREAD?
Have you partaken of the Bread From Heaven
Have you called on Him as your Savior
Have you had your sins washed away
What benefits do we get, when we eat of this BREAD?

20. This BREAD has the Power to:
Gives life (v.33).
He is the reason for living. 
Phil 1:21 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
John 6:33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
He gives us the things that we need to live if we seek him first. (Mat 6:33)

21. This BREAD has the Power to: Never hunger and never thirst (v.35).
John 6:35
And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Psalm 107:9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
John 4:13-14 [13] Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, [14] but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

22. This BREAD has the Power to:
Gives eternal life (v.27, 40, 47, 51, 54, 58).
John 6:54
Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:58
This is the bread which came down from heaven-not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."
John 6:51
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."
John 6:47
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
John 6:40
And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:27
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."
1 Timothy 1:16
However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.

23. This BREAD has the Power to:
Ensures that we will participate in the resurrection (v.39, 44, 54).
John 6:54
Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:44
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:39
This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Philippians 3:10-11
[10] that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, [11] if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

24. This BREAD has the Power to:
Puts us in the care of the Father (v.32, 37-39).
John 6:37-39
[37] All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. [38] For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. [39] This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
John 6:32
Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
1 Peter 5:6-7 [6] Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, [7] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

25. This BREAD has the Power to:
Puts us in fellowship with the Son (v.56).
John 6:56
He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
John 14:21
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."
1 John 1:3
that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

26. This BREAD has the Power to:
Enables us to live by Jesus (v.57).
John 6:57
As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.
In this life.
2 Peter 1:3-4
[3] as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, [4] by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
We live by him when we recognize that he holds the answers to all life’s problems.

27. This BREAD has the Power to:
Enables us to live by Jesus (v.57).
In the life to come.
1 John 4:9
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

28. If you are not a Christian this morning
You stand outside of Christ–starving for spiritual nourishment.
Your soul will wither and die without the spiritual food it needs to live forever.
Will you partake of that bread today?
To do so you must heed God’s plan for man’s salvation.

29. If you are not a Christian this morning
Hear the word; Rom 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing.
Believe with all your heart; Heb 11:6 “For without faith it is impossible
Repent of your sins (Acts 17:30).
Confess Jesus as the Son of God (Matt 16:16).
Be baptized for the remission of your sins (Mark 16:15-16).
